And maybe you should clarify that Scorsese became the second most nominated director for Directing (i.e. not including Best Writing or Best Picture).

De Niro is a director and has eight Oscar nominations, none for directing and Billy Wilder has a combined twenty for directing and writing. As asked, I would think both would be included on your list and would greatly affect the position rankings if all Oscar nominations counted or any nomination counts, as the question is non-specific, "Who is your favorite Most Nominated Director?" BE SPECIFIC!
Favorite Most Oscar-Nominated Director?
Martin Scorsese with his ninth Oscar directing nomination for his work on The Irishman (2019) moves one step closer to unseating William Wyler as the individual with the most Academy Award for Best Director nominations in Oscars history.
Which of these individuals with four or more Oscar-nominations for directing is your favorite?

David Lean.
Love the rest, devoted to some of their movies, but not all of their movies. Poll results didn't surprise me, except for David Lean's placement. It skews to what movies people have seen most recently, or who's living, or who's making a name through Netflix.
Hitchcock, Scorceci, Capra, Nicols, Copola - I could converse and thrill about them for hours. Yes!
But upon review, I have to admit they are close 2nds...
David Lean is it. His brilliance is endlessly breathtaking.
