Live Poll: Most Bizarre Movie Mothers :D

In some movies the role of a bizarre mother-character is a special element of storytelling. Sometimes an actress does such an awesome performance as a bizarre mum, that the mothers bizarreness becomes a fundamental element of the story.

Who of these memorable characters below do you think is the most bizarre mother by acting strange and/or freaking out on screen?

(Only movies with a rating of 7.5/10 or higher, with one exception: down to a rating of 7/10 when the character is outstanding and memorable for more than 20 years.)

It didn't work for me either. Is your list in private mode?

Thank you, Meister Albstein. :D
Yes, it was in private mode. Sorry. ;)

Breumaster, you're a poll author after my own heart, lol: I am always creating polls in private mode then forgetting to switch them to public mode. :)

I shortened it. When an actress had 2 movies, I put 2 Movies on one thumbnail.
Is it better to have the actresses mommy-movies separeted?

Hi, ACT_1.
It's about actresses performances. This Lady seems to be a little old. ;)
I wonder, if i should take Norman in the list, because he is also his mother
in a bizarre way. Let me sleep on, I will think of it, tomorrow. Thank you
for the interesting suggestion. :D

(It feels a little strange, to list Anthony Perkins as an actress).
There may be a few opinions, I'll wait for it/them. :)

FYC:

Angela Lansbury in The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest (1981) - I haven't seen it but the movie is notorious for having a crazy mother

It's nice to have more ponts. I will consider that. These are really good actresses.
I know the manchurian with Liev Schreiber. I think Streep wasn't bizzare, more a kind of greedy, powerthirsty and unscroupulus bloodsucker. ... in this movie, of course. ;) 'Mommie Dearest' sounds more interessting. I will read about it. :)

It's been years since I saw The Manchurian Candidate but there's a helpful website that claims the following:

-Eleanor is demeaning and controlling to her son, using him as a prop to build up her husband's political career and forcing him to break up with the woman he loves. When it's revealed she's also his hypnotic controller, she even orders him to kill the woman he loves, and in the book has sex with him while he's under a trance.

-Part of Ellie Iselin's Freudian Excuse is that she was repeatedly raped by her father as a child. Late in the story, she has sex with Raymond while he's brainwashed (though this is only implied in the film versions).

So maybe her bizarreness is a little subtle.

By the way, do you consider Allison Janney's role in American Beauty (1999) to be bizarre?

Oh yes! You can call the character 'white trash'. But I think, she really is a little bizzare about how she treated her daughter, even when she only was four. The thing with the knife and how she treats other people outside the 'family' seems to be really fishy. About 'The Manchurian Candiate':

I concentrate on the movies not on the books. That's because people who only saw the movie have not the view like people who read the book, too. But the thing with hypnotic controll she uses maybe considerable for me. I see, rubyfruit76 did a lot of mother-suggestions. I guess I'll take the best bizzare mothers all suggesters suggest. So some will be in my list, others not. Thank you for your suggestions. I consider them as - pun intended - candidates. ;)))

Hello, Albstein. :D
Ich habe Deine Beispiele der Liste zugefügt. ;) Sind eigentlich beide ganz ok.
I added your suggestions to the list ;) When I think closer, they are good for the list. :D

Hallo, Albstein.

Breumaster - the 7.0 threshold is a very good idea. About Wendy Torrance - I would agree that she doesn't quite fit (her husband is bizarre, her reactions are "normal" under the extraordinary circumstances).

'Some creepy mothers, indeed. Catherine Keener in 'Get Out' stands out for me, as well as Angela Lansbury in 'The Manchurian Candidate,' and of course Allison Janney in 'I, Tonya.'

I think it would be easier for voters to recall these performances if you switch this to an image poll and use photos of the actors in character. That would requite some tedious work but I think it would pay off. It it helps and you like any of these images...

Anne Ramsey's image is the same but here are some others:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074285/mediaviewer/rm145537536 (there are more obviously horrific photos of her but I chose this because it's eerie and because it would crop better than some of the others)

The photo you're using for Lorna Raver is not Mrs. Ganush, this is:

I'll give you some FYCs tomorrow.

Ok, I'll try this otherwise. I made a list of actresses. So it should better be a list of pictures and characters. But this will be then a whole new Suggestion.

Ok, I started a new list, containing the characters and picture-links from the movies from IMDb. I guess that's the better way to start the whole thing. So I guess, I will have to start a new poll-suggestion arfterwards? I think the project is good enough to start it in another way. Thank you all for your help. :D :D :D

You don't have to start a new suggestion: just add a post with the link to the image list. :)

I thought even if i should make a new poll-suggestion, it would be good to post a link to the new list. So everybody could look at it before. But it's good that I don't need to start a new suggestion. ;)

You can use the word "actor." Actor refers to both men and women.
