So sorry - Ed informed me that 10 picks would be too overwhelming for a voter; we denounced the announcement.  :)  Thanks.

I first have to ask you this. Is the poll about

(subtle but important differences!)

-the movies we find most funny in general
-our favorite movies that happen to be in the comedy genre
-the movies we find most funny in the comedy genre?

I had the same problem too....

our favorite movies that happen to be comedies...
the funniest movies we've ever seen...

Just any movies you've seen that make you laugh!  :)

Then my list is:

Sherlock, jr. (1924) - more of a placeholder for Buster Keaton in general
Trouble in Paradise (1932)
The Twelve Tasks of Astérix (1976)
Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979)
Airplane! (1980)

(what a tragedy to leave so many great movies out)

Okay, just forget what I said up there (about the ten movies, not LAH!)  I guess 10 is too much.  I cracked up there for a minute.  ;)

This was so difficult. : )

Crimes & Misdemeamors
Easy A
Lost in America
The Royal Tenenbaums
Waiting for Guffman

This was tough for a few reasons, including that there are funny films that I like more and think are better but I don't think are quite as funny as the above because they're not really comedies. 'Pulp Fiction,' for example, is one of my favorite films, a masterpiece, and I find parts of it extremely funny but I would never call it a comedy. 'Transamerica,' as another example, is considered to be, in part, a comedy, and I like it more than three of the films above but, even though I think it's funny, the reasons I like it so much has so much to do with other aspects of the film. But, of course, I think that the dramatic content that 'Crimes & Misdemeanors' explores is exquisite but it's also one of the funniest films to me. (That reminds me of another tough choice: I decided that I would only include one Woody Allen film so his movies didn't monopolize my list.)

Anyway, tough choices often make for good polls and I think this one is a good example of that. Kudos.

Okay, added!
Do you think that I should make the other movie titles links to click on?  Would that improve the quality of the poll if voters can click and see, or not?  I mean, I have the years next to the titles, so you've got enough info there to look it up yourself.  Just wondering!  Thanks!

Hi, I'm so sorry that it's taken me so long to respond. I feel like I'm in a cartoon and I'm running as fast as I can to keep up with the treadmill that I'm on but the treadmill keep going faster and faster and - splat - I fall and get flattened out like a pancake in the treadmill's loop, lol.

Anyway, I think that anything that makes it easier for the voter to see the film's page is ideal but 1) Most voters probably just look for the titles that they already know and probably don't spend the time to click on many, if any, links of titles in a poll with so many films, and 2) It's very time consuming to add all of those links so weigh that against the likelihood (or lack thereof) that a significant number of voters will click on the links. If I've got a lot of extra time on my hands, I usually do add as many links as I can but, if I'm short on time, I don't unless I think there's a compelling reason to.

It's very unlikely that it would impact if the poll will go live or not. If a poll admin thinks that this should go live but thinks links would make it better, he or she would most likely leave a post recommending them. I think that this is a good poll idea, with a diverse list of films, as well, and will likely go live but usually these "Poll Board Picks" polls take a little longer to go live because poll admins generally like to give people enough time to add their suggestions.

'Hope that helps a bit. : )

You're welcome and thank you, Narnia!

And Ed: Ouch, I've seen that happen to cartoon characters but I didn't know it actually happens. : )

I had to keep it down to five but any comedy list is incomplete without Robin Williams and Jim Carrey movies. Afterthought.
