Live Poll: Happy Canada Day!

July 1st will mark the 150 celebration of Canada Day. Canada Day is the Canadian national holiday and it celebrates the Constitution Act (then called the British North America Act) which united the three colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada.

To salute Canada, which of these celebrated Canadian filmmakers seems to make the most "Canadian" movies to you?

List: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls068017330
Poll: http://www.imdb.com/poll/GvvscuybdKs/

* selected directors who have become 75-100% Hollywood (or other non-Canadian community) directors who no longer have a connection to Canada have been left off the list

Interesting poll. Most of these films and filmmakers are completely new to me. Nevertheless, I would go for François Girard. By the way, do you speak French?

although i loved denys arcand's 'jesus of montreal', i most definitely have to go with francois girard, for his brilliant 'the red violin' (one of my favorites), as well as 'thirty two short films about glenn gould'...

Jen,

I just found this poll made by you.

Favorite Canadian film director? - http://www.imdb.com/poll/Lbl10ldqtJM/

You can link this poll to your list.

Different question. I think linking them would dilute and confuse this one.

Atom Egoyan,

I am surprised Denis Villeneuve didn't make the cut?

I am a bit surprised to learn James Cameron is Canadian. Sounds like that could be a poll, as I am sure there are tons.

What are you referring to?

As for Villenueve:
Prisoners, Arrival - US
Sicario - US/Mexico
Incendies - Middle East
Enemy - Canadian

Incendies is a Canadian production, the movie is mostly set in the Middle East. By my count only Arrival, Prisoners and Sicario are his only non-Canadian films, leaving 6/9 feature films and 12/16 total titles as Canadian. Blade Runner 2049 will be a Canadian co-production by Thunderbird Entertainment, which owns a 50 percent stake in the Blade Runner franchise. The 75% threshold seems a bit high, if you are a director who wants to work and be on projects that are significant in a global world. But, I guess for the question it might not be: To salute Canada, which of these celebrated Canadian filmmakers seems to make the most "Canadian" movies to you? It is nice to see Canada get some attention and be in the the spotlight for once as polls go.

On the aside, I was referring to your other poll Favorite Canadian film director? - http://www.imdb.com/poll/Lbl10ldqtJM/ and making a comment about the number of Canadians in the film business, some that are well known as being Canadians, others not.

Jen,

FYI: Jeopardy! celebrated Canada's 150th Anniversary on their June 30, 2017 show. Alex Trebek wore a Candian sweatshirt at the beginning of the show. One of the categories during Double Jeoardy! was CANADA 150.
