There is a chance, it will be not just sci-fi ))

Ridiculous poll.  Many of these are not science fiction movies at all; quite a few are lousy movies, notwithstanding their popularity.

This is a rough one because so many of my favorite films are on this list. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind however is pretty much a perfect film to me. It's in my top 3 favorite movies ever made for sure, with Her as a potential competitor.

And some honorable mentions: Alien, The Truman Show, Inception, The Man from Earth (doesn't have the best production values, but the screenplay is riveting). Also I love Gravity, but it's the direction that makes that film, not necessarily the writing.

Hi! Keeping the concept "Original Sci-Fi Films" in mind, it is really very hard to suggest something. This poll seems 100% perfect from the first... and even 2nd look ))) But The Thing (1982) is based on the novella "Who Goes There?" (1938) by John W. Campbell Jr., so the movie-story is not original if I'm correct in understanding this poll idea.

I'd suggest Jurassic Park (1993) to substitute the non-original The Thing (1982). And here I possibly have the question from you and others:
the JP is wholy based on a novel, so what are you talking about? ))
Yes, it is true... but wrong for this poll, as further explained.

Jurassic Park (1993) is based on novel by Michael Crichton, so technically it may be out of this poll. But the novel is mirrored into sreenplay by the same person - Michael Crichton who originally created the whole story.

-----------------spoiler------------------
For what I mean, two examples relative to the same person but different situations:
1) Westworld (1973): Michael Crichton is all-in-one as movie director and writer of the whole story. Conclusion: original movie-story;
2) The Andromeda Strain (1971): based on novel by Michael Crichton, screenplay by Nelson Gidding, director Robert Wise. Conclusion: movie based on novel. The author of original story did not participate in film-making.
-----------------/spoiler------------------

All the rest is perfect for this moment.

But after some time this poll may lack some, because if we try one step outside the Top 1000, there are some options very close to be in Top 1000 and worthy to examine:
2046 (2004)
Abre los ojos (1997)
Westworld (1973)

Thank you so much for your help.

I have removed 'The Thing' and added 'The City of Lost Children'.

The film just entered the Top 1,000 list.
