They may not actually be parents, but they are named after them...which of these characters named Mother or Mama (or Mom, etc) did you like most when you met them?

I considered Thelma but the idea is that everyone calls the person Mother or Mama - only her kids and grandkids called her that.

Will add the others. And upload a decent photo of Mother.

I thought sure there would be more people named Mama - like someone who owns a diner - Mama's Kitchen, something like that.

It's times like these I especially miss the character feature. :(

My vote goes to Mother Superior from “The Trouble With Angels”.

Rosalind Russell was great as Mother Superior in The Trouble with Angels (1966) and Where Angels Go Trouble Follows! (1968).

Dan/anyone else reading this - do you think I should include a sentence describing the character? Some of them are not readily obvious - the computer from Alien, evil billionaire Mom from Futurama, etc.

Jen,

When I first reviewed your list, I thought that it wasn't clear why certain characters are called Mother or Mama, especially the male characters. It probably would be a good idea to add a sentence describing the character and why they are called Mother or Mama.

I also miss the old version of IMDb's character feature.

Jen,
Thanks for adding the descriptions. They help a lot. They also make if more difficult for me to choose.

Jen,

For your consideration:

I would like to offer Mama from I Remember Mama (1948). I favorite film of mine. But, I’m not sure it fits your parameters. The film is the film adaptation of the play of the same name. The play is based on Kathryn Forbes’s novel (actually of stories that form a novel) called “Mama’s Bank Account”. From what I understand, these stories are loosely based on her childhood but yet the book is called a novel which means it is fiction in some parts. I think this is a semi auto biographical book like “A Trre Grows In Brooklyn” is. Some parts are real. Some parts have been fictionalized.

Understand, I love that film and recommend it for Mother’s Day.

I saw this one when making my initial list. The story may be fictionalized, but it's biographical to the point that it doesn't apply. But thank you. I need to check that one out.

The story of the relationship between a man and his mother,

You have to wonder at times why people would sign on
to appear in a show like My Mother The Car.
What could possibly have attracted someone like Ann Sothern
to have in her resume the role of the voice of an antique car?

This TV show which actually ran for a full season
has Sothern recently dying and coming back to earth
as the voice of a 1928 Porter which her Jerry Van Dyke owns.

In fact the show was 10 years ahead of its time.
When Knight Rider premiered we had a talking car with William Daniels's voice.
But it was a state of the art futuristic new car
which housed a computer which could do all
