Thanks, great suggestion. I know there had to be a couple I was missing and I had seen that movie too.

I am unsure of how to represent the character in the poll. Kubo for the most of the movie has his hair covering his eye patch.


It is only in the final scene of the movie that we get a good look.

I agree, I went with the eye patch with his hair covering most of it, as it is part of his 'signature' look. I only mention it, as many people taking poll may have not seen the movie and understand that complexity.

Oh you are going to laugh at this one. I’m listening to the radio while posting and searching for the right image for Kubo when I had found that video. Believe it or not, while the video was playing, the Beatles original version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” starts playing on the radio at the same time. Not kidding! What are the chances of that happening? Maybe God is trying to send a message here!

Thanks, I expected to find a lot more movie pirates with eye patches and thought Captain Hook had a patch too. But he doesn't in either the Hook or Peter Pan movie adaptations.

Thanks, a lot of great suggestions. I  concur with Thor, Odin and Deacon. I like Freddy Benson from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) and Horus from Gods of Egypt (2016) the best and those likely will make the final cut. I will add the others to the Honorable Mention list  with pictures as there are  a couple upcoming movies with eye patch characters and I need to save a few spaces.

I seriously need to upload André De Toth's cameo as Vandenmeer in Spontaneous Combustion (1990). Even though it's brief it's a rare occassion of actor actually rocking the eye patch (despite one of his most known movies was in 3D De Toth really only had one eye). Although I'm not sure whether that image will crop properly.

I added both (Michael Ironside as Zeus in Turbo Kid (2015) and  André De Toth as Vandenmeer in Spontaneous Combustion (1990)) to the Honorable Mention list posted above with pictures.  Unfortunately, they didn't make the final cut, as I had about twenty extra options and really no space on the poll to put them.

Thanks, I like the poll title too. I strive to be the master of the bad pun. On your vote, It is nice to see a vote for an older entry in Madeleine/Frigga. I wasn't familiar with her work or that she is one Quentin Tarantino's favorite actresses. She seems to have been influential in making the eyepatch look cool in movies.

Of course, almost everyone knows that's John Wayne playing Rooster Cogburn, still, it's the only character where the actor/actress is not named. Rooster Cogburn did not play Rooster Cogburn.

That's because the image is tagged this way. Sometimes it's not easy to find a fitting image with perfect descriptions. That may happen. It doesn't look good, but it's ok.

All the color head shot images on this film have the same caption: "Rooster Cogburn," Universal 1974. It is good to know, at least you know it is going to happen in a poll and pick another image that isn't captioned like that, that is if you have other options. Given the choice, I am willing to accept the drawback for an image that displays well in a poll.

I understand that, it's ok. From the view of taking a poll, I would think it looks a little non-uniform, but wouldn't mind it. From the view of a poll autor - If I had the chance to replace it with an equal or better image, maybe I would replace it and ask for a repush.

I feel the same. I did find find a black and white image that would avoid the issue. I did look online, but I couldn't find a color image that wasn't in  the IMDb gallery and already tagged with ""Rooster Cogburn," Universal 1974 label.
