Live Poll: Enough! No More!

A large majority of Hollywood blockbusters consist of reboots, remakes and sequels. There have been some excellent sequels that have become classics and sometimes are even considered better than the original. However, this is a rare occurrence and audiences often get tired of the same tired formulas that are repeated in every instalment. Which most recent entry of a franchise or could be a potential franchise do you believe should just be left alone even though they are most likely or have already announced a sequel/sequels anyway?

My vote: John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)

We definitely need John Wick 4.

The poll is actually about what franchise you don't want another sequel for. Maybe there's a way I could make that more obvious in the title or description?

I like 'Enough! No More!', that drives the point of the poll more effectively.

Thanks for the title request BB I'll give you credit for it in the description!

Gladiator (2000)

We don't need a sequel.

I doubt it will ever happen but I'll include it anyway. Nick Cave's script about Maximus in the afterlife may have been a great comedy, we will never know!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Most of them.  Hard to pick just one.  I'm looking forward to Top Gun 2, Quiet Place 2, and any more Toy Story would be welcome, but all the others I'd like to say "Bye-bye" to.  :/

I actually wanted to suggest The Dark Knight Rises (a Batman movie), but since there's already an upcoming Batman movie.

Can you add that? Because I don't want any more Batman movies, there are so many other great characters in the DC universe, and here they are, still making Batman and Superman movies.

I'm a DC fan, but this is what I like about Marvel, they always look forward to bring new characters to screen.

I might add Justice League since that was the last movie that featured Batman and Superman. Is that alright? Or would you prefer the last stand alone Batman movie that was The Dark Knight Rises?

No, not the Justice League movie, because I want the Zack Snyder trilogy.

You can add the upcoming 2021 Batman movie. But if an admin doesn't allow to add unreleased films, you can replace it with The Dark Knight Rises.

You could also add Frozen 2, Twilight, and maybe even Hunger Games.
I am puzzled as to why The Mummy is on there.  The Dark Universe has been cancelled, to my knowledge.

That's true, however it's on there as an option to leave the Mummy franchise alone.

I would like to suggest the Fast and Furious franchise had 2 movies in 1 year and is the best example of an unnecessary overexploitation to a dead and empty saga.

I can't believe I missed that one! Anyway I kind of enjoy the Fast and Furious movies but not for their story, they are so over the top I wonder what stupid car stunt or CG stunts they will think up in the next instalment. The chain cars in Hobbs and Shaw was comedy gold!

So hard to pick just 1. Maybe you need an "All of the Above" button on that one

Ooff very harsh but I hear you. I would rather Hollywood stop with the franchises and go back to some original ideas. Thankfully we still have independent studios and sometimes even streaming services putting out new interesting movies.

I've got no time for these comic books they try and make into epic sagas. I don't need to watch 8 movies to learn the entire back stories of every character in the plot. Why on earth do they have to drag these things out to over 3 hours? If you can't tell the story of a 30 page comic book in 2 hours, you're just reading way too much into it. There's not enough interest in the storyline to warrant the length of the films. So they stretch them out with 30 minutes of slow motion and pointless visual effects to fill up the runtime to make you think you've got more bang for your buck. It's just boring.
Look at Star Wars, imagine if they did the entire story of World War 2 in one franchise? No-one could sit through that, and that actually happened over the course of 6 years. Not 9 generations, and probably more to come.
I suggest a face-off poll on what's the ideal runtime for a movie. 90 minutes, 120 minutes, 150 minutes, 180 minutes & 180+. I want to be entertained for a couple of hours. A trip to the cinema shouldn't be considered as a day out. I think filmmaking hit it's peak in the 90's to early 00's, a lot of those were great stories, but didn't eat up the best part of the day sat in an uncomfortable seat, eating consuming priced snacks.

I know what you're saying, but you're talking about 70-80 years ago. It's like comparing a digitally remastered mp3 vs an amateur recording of a small chamber orchestra on a phonograph or a wax tube. Could you imagine what Casablanca would even look like today? Rick and Ilsa aren't really relevant anymore. They were a romantic fantasy back then. These days it would be Ryan Reynolds pining over Daisy Riddley[Age differences respective]. It would be plain inappropriate these days, unless of course you were making the story of Prince Andrew/Jeffrey Eppstein story. Plus, that kind of club just doesn't exist anymore. I bet they were few and far between back then too. What, would they do, a Balinese bar full of drunken soldiers caught between the Gulf war & the hunt for Osama Bin Laden? It doesn't really transpire anymore.

Ardan I totally agree, that's why I enjoyed last year's best picture winner 'Green Book'. It's a simple road movie about the growing friendship of these two men.

Rob Wester that sounds like a good idea for a poll, you should make it!

I believe the 70s was the end of the classic era of films and the beginning of modern cinema. A new wave of film directors came in, Martin Scorcese, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, etc. who reshaped what could be achieved in cinema with more mature stories, realistic depictions of society and inventing the blockbuster with surprise hits like Jaws and Star Wars.

i can't find anything about a dark knight sequel?
also in regards to marvel, they have been doing a good job keeping it fresh for the most part, and keep making above average films with only one or two exceptions.

ghostbusters just needs to be allowed to die, the first sequel was bad enough.
