Kit Harington
David Mazouz (I mean, he already portrays Batman in "Gotham", but I can't have more of him in the role)

"But he does need to bulk up a little." - That's the real test of being a batman. Isn't it.

Half of these people on this list are a joke. They wouldn't feel Bruce waynes shoes. Let alone, get inside batman's head. I'm disappointed no one has suggested Jake Gyllenhaal. He is obsessed with body transformations, (south paw - night crawler), he can get deep into psychological characters headspace (donnie darko, enemies, zodiac.) You need a veteran to play the dark knight. He has the pedigree to fill the Cape and cowl.

https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0350453/ sorry my hyper link was left out on my selection.

Ed Jones - I will always respect Michael Keaton and Tim Burton's vision of batman. Single handedly defined my anti hero/ vigilante comic book obsession I'm my youth (early 90s). I was merely stating the poll people were suggesting to fill aflecks shoes. I didn't like any of the suggestions. Keaton nailed the roll. Better than val kilmer, George Clooney, and Ben... hands down. Bale and Keaton are masters of their craft.

I personally cannot see him as Wayne or Batman. Once rejected for the role, always rejected. Besides, at 38y.o. I think he has lost the chance. I know he is suggested in some sites, next to other veterans that go up to 60y.o., but I think that most of these sites just have some clickbait philosophy. What more easy to write a fast article throwing in most famous actors, going from women to incredible choices like Eddie Murphy! On the other hand, we here, despite a couple of veterans and a few kids,  we mostly did some good quality research and I could even bet 100.000$ that future Wayne/Batman is in this list.

"Many people consider Ben Affleck to be the definitive actor to play Batman."

Is that so? I never heard that before. I mean Keaton yes, West too, maybe even Bale, but Affleck???

Hi Horst, thanks for this question. A small research in the web will find bring you reviews in imdb and comparative videos favorable to the statement in this header.
Keaton may seem iconic now, but in 1989 I remember WB had received 100.000 letters against him. Tim Burton had replied he needed an average guy in order to show the importance of the costume which transforms the character. Similarly, Bale's-Nolan's trilogy ended with the statement "Anyone can be Batman". In addition, despite Pacific Heights and American Psycho where they respectively show a madness which could eventually fit, I don't  recall any movie where they have actually fought. On the other hand, Affleck's Accountant proves in his favor and it is a pity he didn't get the chance to have his own movie.

In any case, this is not the subject here. If you had to choose the new one, who would you choose ?

Still 6 choices left if anyone likes. Please feel free to suggest actors of any origin or color, provided they have right age (~25-35), some good movies/tv-series references, and preferably tall and athletic

stermix,

I suspect that Jo Edna Boldin, Kristy Carlson, Lora Kennedy and other casting directors would disagree.

Hi stermix and welcome to the poll board. : )

Under a few of the options, you ask if the actor is young enough. Ben Affleck was 45 when he last played Batman and Bruce Wayne and, in the movie being released in 2019, he will have been 46 or 47 when it was filmed. I'm not certain but I think the actors whose age you question are younger. If they are younger or around the same age, I suggest omitting those particular comments.

thanks rubyfruit76 for the comment, which finds me agreeing with you. being 40 myself and considering Batman one of those heroes that look good with grey or even totally white hair, I find hard to accept a too young actor there. nevertheless the news around the web talk about a max 35 y.o. seemingly targeting a much younger audience. Otherwise they had not reason to replace Affleck who despite the protests was doing good for the short time he played. It is therefore adapting myself to the news and not expressing subjective ideas. In any case no similar comments appear in the list

Yeah, I agree with you: I prefer a Batman that's not too young. 35 is probably a good age because he could stay in the role a long time but isn't too youthful. Batman just seems to me to be edgy and a bit dark, even when he's not the Dark Knight version, and I think that's harder for a really young actor to pull off. I also agree with you about the hair: Spider-man could never pull it off, lol, but I like a Batman with greying hair, as well.

Oh, yeah, and I now notice that you didn't actually ask if anyone is too young. There's just one about whom you mention age but now I understand why.

I had seen an interview with Affleck about a year ago and he mentioned that he liked playing Batman but that he wanted to get back to directing and was freeing up his schedule; although he didn't explicitly say that he wouldn't be playing Batman anymore for that reason, I assumed that's what he meant. Of course, him wanting to stop and the studio or producers aiming for a younger demographic aren't mutually exclusive.

I bet this poll will be popular, by the way.

thanks for the nice comments.
I would have liked Clint Eastwood in the role. There were some rumors at a moment 5-10 years ago for a movie with him as aged Batman. Pity it didn't happen.

I have erased from the list all age related comments to let the poll taker free.

Pattinson? Really? He hasn't the face, nor the physique.
They would have to pump him up, digitally. Batman's shoulders are broad ~1m

Batman never was Black. Is this the beginning of the same discussion like James Bond's?

Caleb Landry Jones? Same deal like Pattinson. With freckles and red hair.

Bruce Wayne in the comics had a more square face. And a also more square chin.
Chritian Bale was good because of his acting, but he also hadn't the correct physique
for Batman. Optically Ben Affleck was the best Batman. But what acting? It's not
easy to pick someone who can chew that gum. The face, the physique, the behaviour.

I totally agree  in all, Breumaster.

However that's what I heard for Pattinson and thought interesting to see how he would do in a poll. If my poll is published, its result might warn WarnerBros. In any case I suspect that we have to put a lot of water in our wines - if I may say - meaning that new actor will be suited to a next generation than to us writing these lines. Through this prism, Pattinson would not be the worst choice. He is relatively tall and has experience in dark and in difficult roles. As long as no Kristen Stewart appears next to him as a DC character, we should consider ourselves lucky!

They want to have a young who can take the role for at leat 10years. Although I prefer Dc characters to Marvel, Marvel has done a better work in movies than Dc. Dc is for now better on tv and anime.

Concerning the color of Bruce Wayne, I agree with you, but I believe that an actor as good as Idris Elba could really ace in that role, although not considered here due to speculated age limitations.

Finally, besides an actual trend for polical correcteness, there is also a trend to appeal to worldwide audiences at the expense of traditional ones. So a choice of a non-white protagonist is always a possibility. If the choice is done correctly, I believe it could work (SPOILER ALERT in Titans tv series Lewis Tan is rumored playing Batman)

Could you fix a small typo in option #11? As of now, it says "an other alternative"

rather than

"another alternative."

Thanks.

You can add a link to the list without it affecting the poll.

But generally it is recommended that you keep the list and don't change it too much. If corrections to the poll are ever needed, we can re-push the poll based on your list.

Another option is to post the link in the Facebook comment feature on your list, or to list your live polls in the description of your profile page.
