I'm cheering for both, but would like to see an upset with Emily Blunt.Great idea for a Face-Off! Although, I would prefer an image version with both actresses in character.

I never knew about these!!!  I always thought that only Disney made Mary Poppins.  I've never seen these, and they may not be good, but it's a nice reminder that other studios besides Disney can make fantasy movies, too!  :)

I would suspect the Studio One in Hollywood (TV Series 1948–1958) version is likely awesome. The Studio One (U.S. TV series) is renowned for it's live broadcast adaptations in the early days of television. It brought Broadway quality production to the masses and was a launching pad for many careers. This episode featured stage actors who would become known commodities later in TV and movies for their character performances.

Paok-Kilkis,

My vote: Julie Andrews

However, I suspect that P.L. Travers would prefer Emily Blunt . Ms. Blunt's version of Mary Poppins probably comes closer to Travers' concept of Mary Poppins in her books.

Julie Andrews.

I will see the Blunt version. But even if I love her performance, I would still prefer Andrews... even if Blunt was the best Poppins ever, I would still prefer Andrew.

I know it sounds irrational.... but who said matters of nostalgic principles were rational? Who wouldn't prefer the cozy comfort of his childhood room over any Plaza royal suite?

Love is also irrational by its nature. When somebody is in state of love, it is always much stronger than a nostalgy. If I love cinema as art, I vote for this in any film released any time - not because I saw or didn't another one in my chilhood or last summer "when my life was better as I remember now".

Art is long, life is short, and nostalgy reffers to a little part of life passed away.

Concerning the topic started, I like the old movie with Andrews, but not enjoy at top. For me it was a great news about a modern remake. At least, now I hope the lacks of the old movie are mastered in a better way, and not only with the help of Blunt. But it's only hope - have not seen yet.

I'm seeing tonight... I will let you know then!  I also agree that this should be an image poll.

Looks great!  Well, I saw it... that's so tough.  At first this was just a fun little poll to me... but now that I've seen Emily's performance I realize what an amazing question this is.  Julie Andrews played a cheerful, magical Mary Poppins.  Emily Blunt actually filled her shoes well and humbly (which is admirable) but she was more of a P.L. Travers Mary, I felt.

"However, I suspect that P.L. Travers would prefer Emily Blunt . Ms. Blunt's version of Mary Poppins probably comes closer to Travers' concept of Mary Poppins in her books."

Dan said it just right.  But I suppose, staying true to the beloved classic, I should vote Julie.  But Emily is sooooo close.  Can I vote twice???  :)

P.S. Here's my review of "Mary Poppins Returns."  https://www.imdb.com/review/rw4523987/?ref_=ur_urv

Paok,

I updated your original post with the list to your image list version of your poll suggestion.

Hi Glen Davis,

Paok is already aware of the FAQ you reference.

I think Emily Blunt will do a great job, but there is only one true Mary Poppins - Julie Andrews!

The New film looks great though, so am looking forward to seeing what they do with it!
