JFF: What Was the Last Film You Saw, and How Would You Rate It? (Pt. 19)

Simply a follow up to Jen's great post; there were getting to be so many pages in that one I thought it could use a refresh.  Happy to carry on the tradition!

Final Destination (2000), rewatch. From an 8/10 to a 5/10.

Army of the Dead (2021), 6/10. Of course, Zach Snyder screws up the late in the movie Race Against the Clock trope.

Mirror Mirror (I) (1990), 1/10. Did not expect the low rent Wyona Ryder/Lydia Deetz knockoff. 9/10 for the Rifftrax commentary track.

Mortal Kombat (1995). I apparently rated it a 7/10 sometime in the distant past perhaps. Rewatch today. So insanely boring. 1/10 updated rating. Only watchable with the Just the Jokes Rifftrax commentary track.

365 Days: This Day (-/10)

Unwatchable. A parody of music clips, car ads and perfume ads. Even the erotic scenes aren't exciting. It is terrible even worse than the first film. I refuse to rate it.

Munich (2005) (7/10)

Possibly the darkest film Spielberg ever made.

The Virgin Suicides (1999) (5/10)

"We knew that they knew everything about us,and that we couldn't fathom them at all."

It may be true that boys didn't understand girls, but the inverse is also true. The misunderstanding of the adolescence lived by the boys, ruined this film for me, considering they are the narrators of the film (poor decision). Mutual misunderstanding of boys and girls should (in my opinion) have been the theme of the film. The way Coppola puts her film is ignorant.

Men (2022), 9/10. One of the scariest, most terrifying movies I've seen in years and years. Gorgeous cinematography as expected from an Alex Garland-directed film. Really effective choral score. Super trippy and gory too.

Falling Down (1993) (5/10)

Capitalism

Ebbe Roe Smith is one of the greatest thinker of the 20th century.

Seriously. This film is pretty much Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall trying to stop a trainwreck of a film.

Every studio in Hollywood turned down Ebbe Roe Smith's script.

Rightfully so.

About Thursday: season 21 of the so-called soft reboot (or is it just a return?) of Law and Order. So much for high hopes and wishing that with each respective episode, its writing would get better. Good thing that Anthony Anderson is bailing before season 22. Hugh Darcy and Odelya Halevi have very good chemistry as the prosecuting team). The rest of the returning cast is quite welcomed but not enough to save it from itself. I'll be too generous and give them a 6/10.

Barring the firing and dismissal of the entire writing staff, they should euthanize the series at this point.

Tonight? An accidental nightmare of a Joe Estevez minimarathon. I wouldn't wish this on Vladmir Putin. Okay. Maybe he would deserve such Estevez exposure.

Baby Ghost (1995), 1/10.

and

San Franpsycho (2006 Video), 1/10.

Rifftrax commentaries, 9/10 and 10/10 respectively.

Friday night:

The Bob's Burgers Movie (2022). Wonderfully funny. 10/10.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always (2020) (8/10)

Important film. (especially the "Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always" scene)

but why did the director think it was a good idea to show the protagonist lose at tic tac toe. You have to be an extraordinary idiot to lose a tic tac toe, it is a solved game and its solution is very easy to memorize (or to deduce).

Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022) (checkins)

This thing is next level. I was able to watch 45 min of 365 Days: This Day before turning it off. But, this movie. Godamn, it is so bad. I think it rivals Space Jam and Rrrrrrrr! I wasn't able to last longer than 2.5 min, I'm not joking, there isn't a film I turned off quicker. By the second scene, I was out.

Blackhat (2015) (8/10)

Sometimes, I don't understand IMDb users (at all). They have boring tastes.

Michael Mann push his style even further than what we had seen in Collateral. The plot is ridiculous, but who cares. There is no one who shoots the Subway, cars, the night or even computers like Michael Mann. And, obviously he doesn't have to prove that he is a master at action sequences.

Already, I have recovered from the pain I had watching Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).
