Face-Off Suggestion: 'Inception' vs. 'Paprika'

'Inception' & 'Paprika': Both the movies revolving around a similar premise about the dreams.

Which of these films do you find more mind-bending?

Thanks for your vote!

It would get a majority of votes, I suppose.

Not sure I'd bet my money on "Paprika" winning the poll.

I'd predict a 90% majority for Inception :)

Even I agree that Inception would get a lot more votes than Paprika, obviously because of being a hollywood blockbuster and a much popular film.

But, even Nolan has agreed in an interview that he was inspired by this Japanese Anime directed by Santoshi Kon. Even some shots were inspired from this film. You don't have to bet on anyone, mate!

Akash,

I know and considering I haven't even seen Paprika (2006), I am by no means stating that Inception is superior in quality, direction, acting etc.

But the patterns of poll-voting have become so redundant that to think the film would even stand a chance in a Face-Off against a juggernaut like Inception (2010) is simply wishful thinking.

Nevertheless, it's a great idea for a Face-Off; I love that many of your ideas shed light on some lesser known gems - they're the films that need to be known by others, as so many suggestions we have merely highlight the big blockbusters and widely popular films. It's what the public wants but I salute you for continuing to make suggestions on some lesser known, foreign films as well as other incredible albeit less popular films. Cheers bud!

Maybe I came out as aggressive.. even if I didn't mean to!

Anyways, I love and respect both the movies. Maybe I should mention this in the intro to make it even clearer why I suggested this.

I might vote Paprika on the mind bending even though Inception is a better movie.

On what part, which movie is better or which is more mind bending or both?

I couldn't disagree with you, as I really like both. I just gave a slight edge to Inception because I liked the characters more. Paprika definitely needs more attention compared to Inception's being a little over hyped (8.8 is pretty high).

Yet, you are not writing that as your question. If you want to ask which one of the two movies is better? You should ask that.

I agree wholeheartedly with ND. Paprika is more mind-bending. Inception is a better film. Paprika is my least favorite Satoshi Kon film. And I still love it. It just hurts my brain untangling it all.

I guess Inception was a better one.

But since you asked the question about "mindbending" I'll go with Paprika.

I can't see how Inception would be more mind-bending than Paprika, because it isn't really mind-bending. People pretend it is, but it's rather simple, and Nolan explained everything in his dialogue.

Yes, that's what I think as well!! Most of it is explained and served to the viewer, which isn't really wrong, but makes it much easier watch.

I just asked that question seeing the popularity of Inception, it's rating- 8.8 and people generally calling it a 'complicated' or a 'hard-to-crack' film..!
Besides, I also wanted Paprika or Santoshi Kon to get more attention.

Just like the popular music that we see, has its roots in some much smaller musicians/producers, such movies would / may be influenced by much smaller films or filmmakers.
