Letterboxed movie previews

What is being done to allow iPhone users to watch movie Trailers using the full real estate of our beautiful and expensive displays??

Currently - and still - it’s essentially Letterboxed with black curtains above/below and on the sides with no option to expand the image or have it fill the full display :(

I'm not seeing this. Of course trailers may have black space above/below or on the sides depending on the image, but usually not both.

You may want to give more details or examples.

True. But even if the curtain(s) is due to the transmission frame for the image (4:3 or 16:9 or some other) and then further due to the image aspect ratio for the actual image within that, the final result should be capable of being pinched in/out to fill the screen - standard content player behavior (some players use also a dedicated button for this). It could even be suggested that the image should default to filling the screen so that the curtain effect is only on the sides or top - but not both. And then the user can further change that with mobile-standard pinch-to-zoom action.
