Landscape / full screen trailers on iOS app?

I am using version 11.7 of the IMDB app on an iPhone Xs with iOS 14.4.  When I play a trailer in the app, there is no full screen option.  I tried rotating my phone so the screen is landscape, expecting the video to rotate and expand to full screen as usual, but nothing happens - the trailer continues to play in the top 1/3rd or so of the screen, in portrait orientation.

I checked the FAQs and other forum posts - I found this similar post where a lot of ppl on Android had the same problem and temporarily resolved it by clearing app storage cache.  I don't think the iOS app has any cache clearing option like that, at least I couldn't find it.  I also found this post with no answers.

I also uninstalled and re-installed the app, with no change.

Surely this is possible, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hello @ZaphodB

On the IMDb app - with the video player open, upon rotating your device to landscape orientation, you should find the video/trailer to rotate and expand to the width of your phone.

Hello @Taylor,

Thank you for the reply, I really appreciate it.  As I described that doesn't work for me.  I just now tried uninstalling the app, restarting my phone, and re-installing, but there is no change.

You can't tell the physical orientation obviously but this is a screenshot from just now of my phone held horizontal, in landscape orientation, while playing the first trailer on the app right now.  The trailer and other content remains in vertical/portrait orientation. I tapped the screen to show the available icons (no full-screen icon).  Tapping the trailer again here just pauses playback.

Any suggestions on what is going wrong?  Is there a setting somewhere that influences this?

Thank you.

Hi @ZaphodB

Making sure we have everything accounted for - is your device portrait orientation lock set to Off?

Furthermore, are you seeing the same issue with the orientation when viewing images (should auto-rotate) on the IMDb app? Or when attempting to use landscape/horizontal orientation in other apps such as Safari?

Hurray, and thank you.  That was the first thing I searched for, before posting this question, but searching for "orientation", "portrait", "rotate" etc within iOS settings on the phone shows nothing.  It took your comment to make me Google "iOS orientation lock" to find that setting exists and where to find it.

Sure enough it was on, and disabling it has solved the problem.  Thanks again for your time, sorry to waste it with such an RTFM question.
