iOS sound volume bug

There is a bug with iOS which has affected the last 6 months or so of IMDB app versions.  I'm currently using version 11.12. When you launch the app and navigate to an entry, the app maximizes the master iOS phone volume. This affects the whole iPhone itself, not just inside the app.  Opening the iPhone settings and navigating to Sound will not show a maximized volume on the slider, but it IS maximized. Adjusting the volume slider slightly will reset the volume to the actual setting of the slider position. This happens every time the IMDB app is used. Please fix. This makes the app infuriating to use. I had been using an older version from 2 years ago which did not have this bug, but was forced to upgrade with iOS 14.6.

Hi Rogue,

Sorry to hear you're running into this issue - can you help confirm what device model you are using? Thanks.

@Rogue I've checked with our Apps team and we've not been able to reproduce this on our end. Are you experiencing this issue with any other apps on your phone?

No.  It only happens with your app.  It started with a version you released some time ago.  I'm sorry I do not know exactly which version.  I usually avoid upgrading like the plague exactly for reasons such as this.  I had rolled back to an older version of your app to avoid the bug, which worked fine for a time, but as I mentioned in the original post I've now been forced to upgrade with iOS 14.6.

You sometimes have to navigate around the app some to get it to kick in.  I usually start with a search if that helps.  I'm assuming it has something to do with the ads and trailers that are now autoplaying on almost every page.

I hope you can fix this, because the app is more annoying than it is a benefit at this point.

More info that occurred to me:  I've tried completely uninstalling the app and reinstalling with no success.  I also had to do a hard reset of the phone itself, restoring factory defaults, when I upgraded to iOS 14.4.  The bug persisted through the reset, so it's doubtful anything on my end.

Hi - you can try checking on this:

Please go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringer And Alerts > Change Buttons. Is it toggled on? If so, please toggle it off. Once you’ve toggled it off, please restart your iPhone device.

I tried this, restarted, and tested.  It did not work.

I'd also like to add that I hope this was simply troubleshooting and not considered a solution or workaround had it worked.  I want that setting enabled.  Your app should not be overriding system settings of the phone.

Hi @Rogue

Unfortunately our team has not been able to reproduce the app changing device volume settings. Would it be possible to provide a screen recording of this occurring? Thanks.

@Taylor

No.  I lock the screen to test the volume of the lock click.  If I do that, the recording will stop.

@Rogue I'm having some trouble understanding when the issue occurs. With that said, can you help provide a step-by-step on how you reproduce the issue?

It's very simple.  Test the phone sounds: lock the screen to hear the click or type in text with clicks enabled.  Then launch your app.  Search for a movie, navigate to the page, look at the cast or images or something.  Maybe search for a 2nd movie or show for good measure.  Then minimize your app, going back to the home screen and test the sounds again.  They will be at max volume and very loud now.  Go into the phone sound settings and move the volume slider slightly so it registers an adjustment and the sound volume will be reset to where it should be.  That's it.

@davidsam0623

Well, I've done it twice in this thread.  Just scroll back.  Another user, tarei395, also posted with the same issue and described the same thing.  Not sure where that post is now.  Maybe deleted?

The bug is not fixed with your latest version.  Multiple people are still experiencing it.

Since you don't seem able or willing to fix this, I'm just getting used to using wikipedia now when I want to look up movie info.  Less annoying adds too.
