IMDB Custom Lists 'List Order' Bug on iPhone and iPad Apps

A bug that I've been experiencing for well over a year on the iPhone and iPad apps that's occurring on the 'Lists' section of my profile is as follows;

When creating a custom list sorted by 'List Order', you can select 'edit' to edit the list order then click 'save' to save the new order.  Very often, after clicking the 'save' prompt, the list order is automatically and incorrectly rearranged slightly, hence saving the wrong list order.  This often happens over and over again and just as often the incorrect rearrangement goes unnoticed.  I just thought the IMDB development team should be aware of this bug so that they will consider trying to resolve it.

Thanks

Hi @mitchellzahn

Thank you for your report though I've been unable to reproduce the issue you've referenced. To further investigate, please explicitly share a link to the list you are using, what actions you are taking (e.g., moving 5 to 3), and what end result you are seeing (e.g., 3 becomes 7). Thanks in advance.

Taylor,

Here is the URL to one of my lists; https://www.imdb.com/list/ls097855154

Last night at around 11:54PM Eastern time, I moved Helter Skelter (1976) from 169 to 172, which should've moved The Highwaymen (2019) to 170 and Fire in the Sky (1993) to 171.  Instead, it was vice versa, moving The Highwaymen to 171 and Fire in the Sky to 172.  This is fairly typical of the issue.  The automatic rearrangement usually happens right around one of the changes you made while editing before clicking the 'save' prompt, and it usually only moves one title in between one to three spaces, which is why it often goes unnoticed.

Let me know if this suffices as an explanation,

MZ

@Taylor  I have to say; This happens almost every single time that I edit one of my lists.  It's about eight or nine times out of ten 'edit' and 'saves'.  It happens, then I edit to fix the rearrangement, and it rearranges something else!

Please keep me apprised!

Hi @mitchellzahn

I have found a numbering/ordering issue with the list you've shared. If you have other lists you're experiencing this issue with, please do note them so I can have the technical team address those as well.

Great news!  I experience this with all of my lists that I keep sorted by ‘list order’ so I will attach the links below.

The lists are as follows;

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls098409781

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls086011585

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls098811748

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls093885859

That’s all of them!  The one I already sent is at the bottom.

Thank you for your help and good luck!  Please keep me apprised.

Hi @mitchellzahn

We've been unable to spot the same numbering/ordering issue with the other lists you've shared. If you're still experiencing issues, please provide another example of your changes.

please explicitly share a link to the list you are using, what actions you are taking (e.g., moving 5 to 3), and what end result you are seeing (e.g., 3 becomes 7).

Okay..  It is the same exact issue.  If I have to note an exact change with each list then that will be incredibly painstaking, but I will do it if you can fix the issue once given that information.  I just had the issue again because I made a single change (In the Heart of the Sea moved from 144 to 95, and 96-Now the Insider but was In Cold Blood rearranged with 97-Now In Cold Blood but was The Insider) on the ‘true story’ list (the first list that I gave).  I’ll get back to you with exact details so you can detect the issue within each individual list.

Thanks again for your help, please keep me apprised in case the issue is detected before I go through each list and intentionally let them rearrange because, as I said, it is the same exact ‘glitch’ or ‘bug’ and this will

be a painstaking task but shouldn’t take very long.

Taylor from IMDB,

Is it okay, after the rearrangement occurs and I note the exact placements/rearrangements, if I correct the rearrangement and by the time you view the list it is already corrected??  As I said, when I go to correct the rearrangement, more rearrangements occur and sometimes it takes up to five or six times to edit the list order before it saves properly, which is what makes this a tedious and painstaking exercise/bug.

Let me know,

I have a specific rearrangement/ordering issue to report on this specific list including the exact placements:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls098811748

I moved The Exorcist (1973) from 44 to 15 and Ed Wood (1994) automatically shifted from 22 to 20.

I am now going to correct this automatic misplacement, which occurred at approximately 2AM Eastern time on Sunday May 23.

As usual, please keep me apprised

Correction: The Exorcist was actually moved from 43 to 15, not from 44 to 15, but the other data is accurate.

Taylor from IMDB,

I have an additional rearrangement to report on this list.

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls098811748

I moved The Woman in the Window from 49 to 57 and moved Dune from 59 to 56, and the list saved with The Woman in the Window at 58 and moved Good Time from 58 to 57.

Thanks

Thanks @mitchellzahn

I've passed these reports along to the team to help further investigate.

Taylor from IMDB,

I have finally detected a specific rearrangement issue on the final list that is very important to me to have this bug resolved on.  It is the largest list which makes the rearrangements the most difficult to detect.  The list URL is as follows:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls093885859

The exact move was that I had added The Hateful Eight to the list, then subsequently moved it from 292 to 106, where the order appeared correctly when I was editing it.  When I clicked the 'save' prompt, Black Swan automatically moved from spot 107 to 108, and Dances with Wolves accordingly moved from spot 108 to 107.  I am now going to go back into my list and switch them back.

I hope this helps!
