Android IMDB app won't stop notifications

The IMDB app in Google Play store was updated yesterday. Since then the app is throwing all sorts of notifications at me. I cannot find a way to turn it off. Notifications have been trailers & New in Theaters notifications which I'm not interested in.

How do I disable this?

Hi Mark,

To turn off notifications, tap the profile icon on the top right of any page in the app. Then tap the 3 dots to find "Settings" and look for "Notification Settings." On that page you can turn off any topics you're not interested in.  IMDb

Thanks. That will probably fix it. The problem I had was I was just going to notifications, not Settings->Notification Settings.

Thanks Mark, we have some work on our list to make that clearer and easier to find. IMDb

Yeah, maybe a little. In general I love the app and use it every day figuring out familiar faces and lesser known actors. (rant) My only ongoing real frustration is these over-the-top, bottom 25% of the screen ads that have now taken over. How many times do I need to see 'Victoria & Abdul', etc. I wouldn't mind it so much if the ads were once or twice a day max but it's gotten to where I'm thinking I need to find another app, not that there is one, but still. (/rant)

Thanks for the help

Thanks Mark, I hear you. We are working on improving the advertising experience too. I will share your feedback with the rest of the team.

Please don't get me wrong. Great app and website, and I do understand the need to earn money thru ads. That said when I opened the app a few minutes ago it was 20% ad at the bottom and maybe 50% video trailer at the top. I use the app to learn about movies and the people who make them and right now I don't think more than 30% of the initial screen on my Android supports that. I close every ad by hand immediately and then scroll down to ignore the trailer video.

That said I realize that I'm probably not typical. I complained to NetFlix when they got rid of reviews and I really didn't like it when they told me their average customer just wants to watch stuff quick so the moved to nothing but the cover photo.

Does no one actually read and think these days? I think there's got to be a market for people who want to consider things a bit first, but again, I think I must be uncommon.

Anyway, thanks much for pointing me toward the notification solution.

Cheers. Have a great weekend

Hi Jennifer,
To turn off notifications, tap the profile icon on the top right of any page in the app. Then tap the 3 dots to find "Settings" and look for "Notification Settings." On that page you can turn off any topics you're not interested in.  See screenshots referenced in the earlier thread, and please let us know if you have any difficulty.

I have switched off notifications in the app but I am still getting them through. I may have to uninstall this app.

I'm having the same problem.  Hey IMDB, you are about to lose a gangload of users if you don't KNOCK THIS CRAP OFF!! These push notifications are invasive, frequent, and ANNOYING!  You have users who are at the point of uninstall.  Enough already!

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this. We haven't sent very many notifications out, so it's unusual to hear you are receiving so many. We think there may be an issue with Android batching multiple push messages and sending them all at once.  We are investigating. Feel free to turn them off at any time in Settings.

Since posting this I haven't had any more notifications, hopefully the settings have taken effect.

I too am still getting notifications despite turning them off in the settings. And as for 'not sending many out', I had 9 when I woke up this morning and have had four more since

Could you let me know if they were trailers or something else? The movie names would be helpful. That’s definitely way more than we would ever send.
