Unlisted music and sound design

Hello,

Can someone please help me. There’s a musician i’m huge fan of who’s also very well known for doing a ton of music and sound design and they have a ton of films, tv shows and video games listed up on their site, but then i come here, or i see the credits of a certain film that they have listed on their site, and they’re not mentioned on imdb or in the film’s credits but they have it still listed on their site as something they have worked on... why is that?

What do you mean?

Why would they have these projects listed on their page if they didn’t work on them?

After a bit of looking into it, it seems that he might be upselling himself quite a bit on his website.... it's not uncommon in Hollywood or the music industry to generously fluff ones resume
Under 'Credits' he has:
   Composer
    Film & Television:
"2014 The Strain (FX channel)" is listed...  out of assumption you'd be thinking he was the composer behind that season of the TV show... but if you look here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3380658/companycredits
he provided soundscapes for one episode.

IMO, that'd be akin to a guy who worked at a studio Prince was recording at for a new album.. at one point during recording a certain track, Prince liked a chord this guy strummed while he was tuning a guitar, and so Prince used that chord in one song on that album.... Said 'guy' is probably not going to be listed as a "feature" to that track on the albums credits.

If he specializes in soundscapes specifically I can understand why he wouldn't be listed that often. Even though you might find him working closely, at times, with the composers of said productions.... I wouldn't be surprised if in video games he was listed more commonly (given soundscapes are a HUGE part of them)

OR, with how skeezy society is nowadays, and the fact that bolstering reputation is not that strange of a thing to do... you could possibly be a friend, secretary, girlfriend, or just a really proud mother (lol), that is just trying to boost the reputation of "Lustmord" by getting his name listed on official reference sites. Kind of a sneaky way to boost fame and recognition...
The entertainment industry runs almost entirely on fame and recognition (hence why 99% of debuting actresses are/were models)..  success shown on paper or online can actually get you places.
The movie "Catch Me If You Can" comes to mind.

Well that’s why i said he provides sound design, he provides soundscapes, it’s part of his job

soundscapes tend to be used in conjunction with musical scores, hence below composers... credits tend not to extend past the 'surface' when it comes to sub-groups involved with said scores

Maybe you would find more info on his contributions in IMDbPRO?

His site, IMO, would do itself a great favor by going into further detail as far as his exact contributions in film and music.... It would be a far cry easier to substantiate (and thus credit) his involvement... Over time it would actually end up self-verifying from people cross checking through various search engines.

Oh ok i did not know that, so that’s why their names may not show up in the project’s end credits?..

Yeah @Rene D... to be honest, being after the fact, I bet it would be a pain to get that info easily.... those are things that are usually decided during a production as far as IF, and how much credit will be given. Hard to alter it after the fact.
In my experience with the film industry here in NM, it can be crazy how much can be "missed out on" if it never gets brought up mid-production.

Ok so it is absolutely factual that he had involvement in these projects, even if the production didn’t bother to credit him..

well... you'd have to fact check more for yourself... but I posted the link above of one instance where I found a very vague/subtle mention of "Lustmord" after 10 minutes of searching... tried finding connections with others and couldn't. It's just hard to fact check soundscaping services, considering it's a more vague category of production.... It's like trying to find out where a show got the font for the opening credits (if that makes sense)... You'd have to ask the Composer or the person(s) listed in the credits of a production under "Music and EFX" to be 100% sure

I think it’s fair though to think he had involvement in all the credits he has listed on his site in some way at least

For sure! the extent of which is probably the only question one could ask.
