find a film

The whole film centres on a man picking up a phone that is ringing in the phone box, New York I think? He is being watched by a sniper in a building somewhere and if he puts the phone down he will be shot. He has trouble with police and pimps when he discovers a gun in the booth. It is a film probably 10 years old and I can't remember the actors. Anyone got any ideas?
