Film Unknown British B&W

I saw a film recently but forgot the title it is an old British film. It starts with a man driving his car an listening to the radio and learning of 2 escaped convicts. The  next shows the convicts running over a field and stopping the car. The convicts are a Scandinavian and an American. The man driving comes up to a road check point where he pulls a gun out and wants them to kill his wife in return for getting them free. At the house it gets a bit manic, the wife is locked in the bedroom and escapes by putting paper under the door and pushing out the key. I believe somehow in the film the Scandinavian gets shot. There is also a young lady in the annex at the side of the house who keeps playing records, the American try's to get it on with her. She sees a newspaper headline about the escape so he kills her. The end part is when the American wants some money straightaway, however the man can't get to a bank as it is the weekend. He try's to sell his American car to a dealer but all he can get is a cheque which is no good. I know the end finishes with the mans psychiatrist and his wife are together and there is a shootout between the police, convict and man and the 2 are shot dead. Any film buffs know the title?

I don't know, but you might look at "The Small Voice" aka "The Hideaway" (1948) with Howard Keel, and see if that is your movie.

Thanks Bill but it definitely didn't have Howard Keel in it.
