Staff: Keyword decision needed

What does IMDb prefer?

film-actor (916 titles)

movie actor (811 titles)

motion-picture-actor (3 titles)

Obviously, NOT "motion-picture-", but, what is the preference?  I believe this has been asked before, but I cannot find an answer.

This decision would also apply to -director, -producer, -studio, etc.

A decision, please, to avoid so much unnecessary duplication.

My personal preference is for "film-" (to go along with "filmmaker" and "filmmaking"), but I have learned, long ago, that my preference makes no difference to the staff.

@bradley_kent

I had been planning to include all of these specific keywords (along with dozens of other movie-related keywords) in a future list of proposed mass mergers and auto-conversions, but since you have beat me to it, here is my two cents:

I agree with you that "film-actor," "film-director," and "film-producer" should prevail over the counterpart keywords starting with "movie-."

The only keyword merger you listed that I disagree with is "film-studio" versus "movie-studio." I believe the latter keyword ("movie-studio") should prevail. This is largely just a personal preference on my part, although I also note that "movie-studio" is more predominant than "film-studio" as a keyword on IMDb.

On the other hand, based on Google searches, "film-studio" is more commonly used on the Internet than "movie-studio." Either way, they are basically synonyms, and should be merged.

@keyword_expert "movie-studio" just seems too old fashioned, especially since "film-studio" seems to include television productions, also.  Anything to fill up those sound stages!

@bradley_kent You do make some persuasive arguments.

A few possible "movie-" exceptions:

"movie-star". (subjective, but denoting a high level of fame and "stardom"); and,

"movie-theater". (although this gets very confused with "cinema," which can represent a movie theater OR the art or craft of filmmaking, itself.  (theater? theatre?)

Also:

"watching-a-movie" (957 titles) vs. "watching-a-film" (only 16 titles)
