Plot Outline Issue

The plot outline beside my film's title is meant to read as only: "The lives of several people are tied by unseen forces throughout history." HOWEVER, it shows as "Siber starring Robert Alter, Thomas Anderson, and Nirav Bhakta. The lives of several people are tied by unseen forces throughout history." and I'm wondering how to get rid of the "Siber starring Robert Alter, Thomas Anderson, and Nirav Bhakta" part. I've tried editing the plot outline but that "starring" portion continues to show up... How can I fix this and why is it happening?

Hi, Caleb Benjamin Wheeler. Could you post here a screen cap of the particular page showing up in such an odd way?

Plot outline looks normal in my phone at least.

My issue is the "Siber starring Robert Alter, Thomas Anderson, and Nirav Bhakta" line... I did not manually put that in and am unable to remove it, so I'm wondering where it came from and if it can be adjusted in the settings.

Well, how it looks is bound to vary from platform to platform, Eboy. Inasmuch, there is no universal "normal".

Caleb,

If you've submitted the revision in the past day or two, it appears that the update is in the middle of being processed and has not been completed.

Wait for at least a day or two more for the update to complete. There's no need to resubmit the revision.

My revision was completed yesterday but the "Siber starring Robert Alter, Thomas Anderson, and Nirav Bhakta" is still appearing. It's almost like an auto-fill line using my top-billed actors because I did not create that sentence. Do you know where it would have come from?

Click the Edit page of the title and view the Updating Information page. When you go to the Plot Outlines section, you will notice the statement "Siber starring...." statement was removed. However, as of this posting, the statement still appears on the title's main page. It usually means that the update you submitted has been approved and is still being processed.

Not every submission is processed at the same time and revisions may appear on the database at different times. As I mentioned before, please wait at least a day or two for the update to complete.

Go to the Plot Outlines section. To the right, click the drop-down menu and change the item from No change to Correct/Delete.

On the next page, you'll notice that the storyline is still there and the "...starring..." statement was removed. Please read the previous message.

Is this "...starring..." issue something you're familiar with? Or are you just assuming the change will be made and I need to wait longer?

I don't see the relevance of your remarks, GMJ. The way the page shows up in Caleb's browser is fucked up for some reason. That is a problem.

I think this is a display glitch and has nothing to do with plot outlines.

I agree. Have you dealt with anything like this or know who I should contact?

Hi there!

Indeed, this seems to be some kind of a display issue.

The first time I encountered this problem was on June 18, 2018, when I submitted my plot summary for Tomb Raider (2018) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1365519/, where the analogous part “Tomb Raider is a movie starring Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, and Walton Goggins” mysteriously appeared in the body of the plot outline.

Here’s another example:

Yakari: The Lost Puppy (#3.25) (June 23, 2018) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3900124/

“Lost Puppy is an episode of Yakari starring Maxime Nivet, and Yoann Sover.”

Of course, when I tried to edit the part in question, both plots appeared to be in perfect order, as if another member of IMDb edited them before me (highly unlikely regarding Yakari), leading me to believe that the changes would take effect shortly.

Unfortunately, the problem persists. Is it on our end or IMDb’s? Are you guys facing the same conundrum when you visit the above-mentioned links?

Wait a minute. I use Title Reference View, so that's why I'm not seeing what you're seeing, unless I switch to the the default view.

Nice observation, Jeorj!

Indeed, when I switch to Title Reference View, the section in question disappears. I checked again, and the issue remains when using the default view.

What do you think?

It's definitely an inconsistency in the sense that the part in question of title pages are not all formatted universally in the same way (by an automated mechanism) on the desktop platform.

On the technical side of things, the part in question is the content of the HTML "div" tag (element) belonging to DOM class "summary_text", inside the "plot_summary"-class "div" element, inside the "plot_summary_wrapper"-class "div" element. The three example of title main pages mentioned here thus far all have a "plot_summary"-class "div" element that also belongs to the "minPlotHeightWithPoster" class, whereas the same element in a vast majority of title main pages lacks this class name.

Thanks a lot, Jeorj, for your time clarifying this issue.

I have never experienced this problem before; however, since this morning, I have noticed that more and more titles (that were fine in the past) share the same discrepancy you mentioned earlier.

Just for fun, here’s another example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1134259/?ref_=ttpl_pl_tt

I guess, we’ll have to learn to live with it, as it is only a cosmetic matter...

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Data that appears to not be editable.

For the title https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3090882/, there is a summary next to the poster that reads "You Belong to Me: Sex Race and Murder in the South is a movie starring Anita Davenport, Denise Durette, and Reggie Brooks. Over sixty years ago, a murder rocked Live Oak, Florida and awakened the nation. Today, the ghosts still remain."  This text has a minor grammatical error to the title (missing comma).  But this particular text does not show up in either the plot summary or synopsis sections and I have not found it anywhere else to be able to edit it.  Where do I find this text to be able to edit?

All of that is fixable, Trey Farr. The issue is that no component can be separated from any of the others.

Hi all,

Thank you for raising this, we are currently running an experiment which is affecting the plot outlines on a limited number of titles on the desktop version of the site. The plot outline data is not affected, just how this displays on the title page. This will be running for another couple of weeks.

Apologies that this wasn't communicated clearly beforehand.

Regards,
Will

Balboa Baggins, please, be patient.

As Will (Employee) said two days ago: "This will be running for another couple of weeks."

In the meantime, we can all go on with our lives. After all, today is just another day of contribution to this site.

Happy IMDbing!
