IMDb Staff: Some Keywords odds and ends

Dear IMDb staff, I have a few keyword items for your consideration. 1. Can you please delete and block this keyword from future use? raf (80 titles) The keyword "raf" is inherently vague, since it can mean either royal-air-force (177 titles) or red-army-faction (37 titles). I have fully audited the "raf" keyword and have assigned one or the other of these two keywords to all titles with "raf." The "raf" keyword is ready to be deleted and blocked. 2. As a supplement to my prior request, can you please merge and auto-convert these keywords? rote-armee-fraktion (22 titles) --> red-army-faction (37 titles) 3. Finally, can you please block and delete these disguised genre keywords? Details explained here. real-incident real-life-incident real-life-story real-stories true-stories true-story true-life-adventure

I don't understand why you would disregard raf. it is a legitimate search keyword because most would use that probably rather than type out the whole thing. RAF is a common way to say Royal Air Force. On the flip side i have never heard raf describe the red army. But then what do i know.

@wolf_digital The problem is the keyword "raf" was being used for both of these terms. Out of the 80 instances of "raf," 55 were used to indicate Royal Air Force, while 25 were used to indicate Red Army Faction. One of these terms will have a certain meaning to people in Germany, and the other meaning to people in England. And it may mean something entirely different to people in other countries. Just check out this list of possible meanings: https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/RAF This makes the keyword "raf" inherently vague, and vague keywords are disfavored on IMDb. Plus, keywords that solely consist of acronyms are also disfavored. So, the keyword "raf" has two strikes against it.

raf is a commonly used term. just like pc. Nobody says personal computer. They say pc. We could argue all day i suppose. Discussing regional acronyms and which region uses which more. I see no reason raf needs to go. royal air force keyword is valid as well. the two on the same page does not hurt my feelings. You do have points as well. i await the outcome with great interest. Nice Topic friend. Useful I think.

@wolf_digital "pc" should not be a keyword either, because it is also inherently vague and can have multiple meanings. Among other things, it could mean "politically-correct," "personal-computer," or "ibm-pc." Those other keywords should be used instead of the facially vague "pc."

@wolf_digital I just wanted to point out that if "raf" had been kept as a keyword, then some contributors would continue to use only that keyword, while others would use royal-air-force or red-army-faction. Some contributors might use "raf" plus one of these others keywords, while most contributors would probably just use "raf." The result is to bifurcate the keywords, which diminishes the sweep of keyword searches, especially searches involving multiple keywords in combination with each other.
