From personal experience, I go to my library's website and compare the data on IMDb with a local newspaper's TV listings from a particular date.

I also check the title in various search engines. If the results end up on only 1 or 2 sources (IMDb and a personal blog, for example), then the title may have been added to IMDb with little or no other proof.

If the results include reviews, book sources, and personal interviews with the actors, producers or crew members, then it's likely a legitimate title and should be listed on IMDb.

Are you talking about titles that were added to IMDb recently with recent release years or titles from decades ago?

I hope this helps.

Hello, Alien Knights of chaos.

Adding to what GMJ said I would like to add a few notes. Collecting proof links might be tricky, but if you dig deeper you will find at least two mentions and that is quite enough to have some information. I find it a big problem that we have a link deterioration problem on IMDb which affects big titles and movies and small web content alike: some of the titles I have added originally had a full set of proof links: pages, video links etc. but nowadays quite a few have most of the links as dead ones so I spare some additional time to find newer proof links.

Also, just to clarify: what is your definiton of fake? There is at least one test page on IMDb and there are also pages for some lost media as well, including rather recent web content. Also, if you suspect or know any fake titles you may report them here for further investigation by IMDb staff, as well as active users.

Just saying that a) collecting proof links sometims is hard and b) there is a problem of links becoming dead with time and making the information presented look less trustworthy and suspicious (especially if there were also formatting errors).

With some titles having fewer to no things in the Internet on them happens, but most of them turn out to be existing and are eligible according to guidelines.

well like okay for example, there is this new show yet to be picked up to series called wayward sisters yet it already has a page and star ratings for it, so Idk to what series that applies for

Well, there is something indeed not adding up on the page. Most of the content was taken from this article, it seems and it also seems that they've used the date of the article as a release date for the series.

However series seems to be confirmed and in production so it should be there, probably just with a cleanup.

Following up on Nikolay's response, the solo episode listed on the Wayward Sisters is a duplicate of the episode already listed on Supernatural. A contributor likely started a new show page without considering that the backdoor pilot should be listed on the original show's page, not create a new title page.

I do agree that the main title page for Wayward Sisters should be kept as is. However, the solo episode should be merged since the title has been voted on already.

Hi All -

I just had a look at the "Wayward Sisters" listings and as GMJ mentioned, the duplicated pilot needs to be merged.  I have gone ahead and merged the incorrect pilot title to the existing episode for "Supernatural" and the change should be live on the site shortly.

Alien Knights of chaos - if you encounter title listings on the site that you believe are invalid titles, please report these in this form so our editors can investigate further.

Somebody jumped the gun when setting up a page for Wayward Sisters on IMDb.

While it was a backdoor pilot that aired as an episode of Supernatural,
and was meant to introduce a spin-off,  it wasn't picked up for series,
so really shouldn't have it's own page.

The CW decided to go with the Legacies spin-off of The Originals instead.

One way to look at this issue is that people kind of have prove that some film or series is ”fake”. Sure, some titles can be rather suspicious etc, but not necessarily ”fake”. Some probably are fake, but people still have to prove it.

With some older productions (especially with TV - we have almost 200 countries in the world today and titles are added from all over the world) there might be nothing on the internet. I mean 0 info, nothing. But when these titles are added to IMDb, suddenly there’s plenty of info. I always think that my main ”job” (hobby) is to deal with IMDb data editors (provide them the necessary proof/links/sources), not to whole world.

everything is fake on imdb. they never remove everything and half the information is incorrect. they have no actual way of confirming things and they have like a million student films and bs things that never got made. its a garbage database that ruins young actors careers and makes others look like they are good at film when they arent. it should be shut down.

'Alien Knights of Chaos' sounds like quite a mouthful to me, and I am looking to improve the tentative title of my new project in some similar way.  Perhaps we should turn to a Jedi Knight of Order ?
