Episode Plot Outlines

I have noticed that a lot of programs on the MHz Choice streaming service do not have plot outlines after the first or second season.  Why?  Can't IMDB co-ordinate with MHz Choice and other streaming services to get the plot outlines?  I just added the plot outlines for the last three episodes of season three of "The New Nurses".  I've also done this for several other shows and wonder why it is being left to the users to do this when MHz Choice already has that information.  I do not work for MHz Choice, I am just a subscriber.

When you look at the requirement for plot outlines, IMDb states the following: "Outlines must be your own original work and not copied from other sites, publications or other copyright sources."

So I assume that it why IMDb not scraping plot outlines from other sources, and it's up to either contributors or the studio/representative to update the episodes/titles with plot outlines.

MHz Choice are welcome to submit outlines (and other data) for their shows.  We do not support bulk data ingestion, however, plenty of networks / production companies / etc do already provide their own information via the standard IMDb update interface.

@Col_Needham This sounds more like, "Let the mountain come to Mohammed."  What a load of rubbish.  It is time to get over yourselves.  You need each other and need to co-operate with each other.  You want my eyeballs to see your ads?  You work with content providers to make sure that information like plot outlines is there and not totally dependent on viewers only to provide.  And another thing.  When I click on the stay logged in button, I should still be logged in even if it has been a week or two since the last time I was here!

@e8n2 Sorry for the misunderstanding above. Here is some additional background to explain: we have tried data ingestion agreements before, but the problem is that each company has its own formats and own ideas of which titles are which and which names are which.  This often then results in problems with data duplication — you will even find traces of these issues reported here on Sprinklr in past years. It is much better if third parties use the same contribution interface as everyone else where matches can be checked (and mismatches fixed). Many official sources do exactly this already.  MHz Choice presumably are familiar with IMDb and they are welcome to add data on their titles as mentioned above, however, for whatever reason they have chosen not to do so.

There’s more background on how and why we operate available at https://contribute.imdb.com/czone and https://www.imdb.com/pressroom/

When I click on the stay logged in button, I should still be logged in even if it has been a week or two since the last time I was here!

This is how the system is already supposed to operate and you should not need to login more than around once per year on the same browser.  If you need to repeatedly login, it is likely you have a plug-in or (incorrectly named) “privacy guard” software which is clearing the account cookies from your browser.  If so, you should be able to configure it to make an exception for imdb.com.  For more information, please see https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/general-information/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF

Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham That explains things a lot better.  I'll send MHz Choice a nastygram telling them that they need to enter their info on IMDB.

Thanks,

Dave

@Col_Needham Followed up on my nastygram to MHz Choice.  A copy of it is here:

"Why does MHz Choice not seem to care to put in plot outlines for the episodes of their programs on IMDB.com? This past Sunday I added the plot outlines for the last three episodes of season 3 of the New Nurses. I have also added plot outlines for Tatort: Borowski and Alexandra Ehle. I shouldn't have to do that. I have complained to IMDB.com and they say that MHz Choice is free to put in that information, but apparently doesn't care. I damn well care, and so should MHz Choice! I have been copying and pasting the plot outline that MHz Choice has for the episodes that I watch and ALWAYS state that I got it directly from the MHz Choice web site with a copy of the url for each episode. To me this is MHz Choices responsibility, so do it!"

Now to see what they say about it.

It's been a week now and NO reply from MHz Choice.  I guess they just don't care about the subject.  Jerks.
