Declined amendments.

Must admit I am a bit miffed. Over the last couple of years I have added thousands of additions and amendments to a whole range of British films dating back to the thirties. The additions (in the main) go quite smoothly but sometimes, for no apparant reason, I have modifications declined. Foe example, I expand "cinematographer" entries so that it includes the exact on-screen description- "director of photography", "photography" etc. It's very hit-and-miss, sometimes they are accepted, sometimes not. Why should that be? Why the variation?? I must admit, it is quite upsetting. Also, disappointing that not once in all that time have I had any kind of personal response from IMDB.

Personal responses to contributions are very rare.

There may be variation based on for example the status of the name or the title. Sometimes you may need to add evidence in the form of screenshots.

Thank you for your response, Peter. I have uploaded screenshots now and then when necessary and then the update usually appears without any problem. What is frustrating is that some credits are changed (normally quite swiftly) without screenshots but others for effectively the same modification - like the "cinematographer" example I gave - are declined. The only thing that is different is the name of the cinematographer.

Hi keith_chanter -

Thanks for your many contributions to the site over the years.  If you are continually experiencing declined updates, I encourage you to post those submission reference numbers within this thread and our staff can investigate further to help identify the issue.

Cheers!

Thanks for responding, Michelle. Good to be in touch with a "real person" from IMDB. I was wondering how much of my stuff is dealt with by a sophisticated computer system and how much by personal vetting. I suppose the biggest frustration is trying to get credits changed when I know for a fact they are wrong. Sometimes a well-known actor is listed as being in a film when he/she is not. I guess it is almost impossible to change these credits as I have no way of proving them. Anyway, I will take your advice about posting issues here. I must add that most of my amendments and nearly all of my additions move swiftly and efficiently through the system.
