Credits are split into two, probably due to pseudonym

I have my credits split into 2 separate pages, and not in a logical way. Is there any way to fix this and avoid confusion for all concerned?

Basically, I appear in film and/or TV most often as my comedic stand-up persona "Neil Hamburger". In those cases, I am billed as "Neil Hamburger". Other, non-Neil stuff gets billed under my real name, Gregg Turkington. As it stands now, most of my credits are listed on a page for "Neil Hamburger", with the Gregg Turkington stuff credited with "as Gregg Turkington" after the character name. Yet there is a separate Gregg Turkington page that is also on IMDB, which features a few credits as well. These should all be combined, but how to do it?

It's confusing, I realize. Things where I am playing "Neil Hamburger" end up in the "Self" section of the Neil Hamburger page, despite the fact that Neil Hamburger is a character. Things where I playing a character, totally unrelated to Gregg Turkington, also end up credited to Neil Hamburger, even on the IMDB page for the movie, which creates inaccuracy and confusion. For instance--I portrayed a character named "Bobby" in the movie "The Comedy". I was credited as Gregg Turkington in the end credits, and on the theatrical movie poster. Yet if you go to the IMDB page for "The Comedy" you see "Neil Hamburger" credited as Bobby...though the Neil Hamburger persona has nothing to do with the movie, and is not listed in the credits.

Another example: In the movie "Tenacious D In The Pick of Destiny", I was in the "Neil Hamburger" persona, yet was credited in the end credits as "Neil Hamburger", playing a character named as "Stand-Up Comic". It would seem like the best thing would be for all these credits to be under the umbrella of ONE Gregg Turkington IMDB page, with the Hamburger credits, such as the "Tenacious D" example, listed as "as Neil Hamburger". But I have no idea how to fix that, or even if I have the authority to do so.

And then for the "On Cinema" (TV Series 2012- ) listing, "Neil Hamburger" is given an acting credit, but "Gregg Turkington" is given a writing credit--even though these credits both belong solely to Gregg Turkington.

Anyone who has the patience to suggest or find a solution to this mess...please help! Much thanks.

Gregg: I think your plan to have all your credits listed under the umbrella of the Gregg Turkington IMDB page, with the Hamburger credits listed as "as Neil Hamburger", is the right way to go. Here is how I recommend going about this:

Go to the Neil Hamburger page at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0877203/ and click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Name Correction or Merge line, select "Add correction". Scroll down and click "Continue".

On the next screen, there will be a blank line on which to enter the corrected name. Enter it last name first:
Turkington, Gregg

Below that, there will be a checkbox that says "Preserve previous name on existing credits. i.e. '(as Neil Hamburger)'". The box should be checked.

There will also be an explanation box. Enter something like "I am Gregg Turkington, and I sometimes am billed under my comedic stand-up persona name, Neil Hamburger. All the credits on both the Gregg Turkington and Neil Hamburger pages are mine and should be merged onto one page, the page for my primary name, Gregg Turkington." Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, you will get a warning that says, "You are about to merge two separate name pages into one. Are you sure you want to merge this person with Turkington, Gregg?..." That's exactly what you want, so check the box marked "Warning understood, go ahead anyway." Click "Re-check these updates".

On the next screen, your data should appear with a green background, and you should be able to click "Submit these updates".

It may take a few days for the merge to be processed and some of your credits may disappear temporarily, but any such missing credits should reappear within two days.

Once all your credits have shown up on the Gregg Turkington page, you may find that there are specific credits that have an (as Neil Hamburger) attribute that does not actually apply (because you were credited as Gregg for that project, not as Neil). If so, you should just submit regular corrections for those credits to remove the attribute where it doesn't belong.

If you run into other problems, feel free to come back here and ask.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

You have the right idea, and certainly may make the submission yourself.

You need to merge the two pages, by going to the Neil Hamburger page and changing the Primary name to Gregg Turkington,

See Person X and person Y are the same, how can I combine their listings? for the official word on this.

You need to leave the box beside Preserve previous name on existing credits. i.e. '(as Neil Hamburger)' checked. This will add (as Neil Hamburger) to these credits when they are moved to the other name, so that they still reflect what is shown on screen. Note that this may not be added to the credits for several days after they show up on the Gregg Turkington page.

Once the pages have been merged you can clean up any other problems. The following comments are based only on your statements; I have not checked the actual credits.

In the movie "Tenacious D In The Pick of Destiny", I was in the "Neil
Hamburger" persona, yet was credited in the end credits as "Neil
Hamburger", playing a character named as "Stand-Up Comic"
This should be listed as Name: Gregg Turkington, Character: Stand-Up Comic, Attribute: (as Neil Hamburger)

For the "On Display" (2012) episodes, both the actor and Writing credits should be under the Name Gregg Turkington but only the actor credit should have the (as Neil Hamburger) attribute.

As for the Self credits: any credit with a Character Name that begins with Himself is automatically moved to the Self section. Therefore if you are playing a scripted role, you should replace the Himself in the on-screen credits with your name (in this case Neil Hamburger). This is one of the few cases where the on-screen character name is not used.

A quick glance at the Neil Hamburger page suggests that the credit for the episode Free Radio: Lance's Posse should have the character name changed from Himself to Neil Hamburger. On the other hand, I assume that Tom Green's House Tonight as a talk show is (relatively) unscripted, so those credits should stay as Himself

If you need more detailed help, post a reply in this thread and someone will give more help.

Hi guys that's very useful post
I have the opposite problem, maybe someone of you could help?

I'm Anton z Risan, and I have a few small credits in minor films as cast/producer/ etc

And it all used to be fine, but recently my imdb page has been merged with someone else called Anton Dickson that has his own credits in the cast category,
The page is this:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1563782/re...

I have requested that imdb split up these two profiles / correct their data, but so far they haven't, saying that the data is correct (but it's not), and saying that as the freebase.com website is showing a merged data for these two seperate persons they cannot change their data,
I have messaged with the freebase team and they won't so far change their data as they are taking the information from the imdb website (which is wrong), so at the moment I'm in a limbo...

This has caused me huge distress and I've lost out on work opportunities in the last year as the other persons credits are linked to adult content films, which I have nothing to do with.

Can anyone please help me correct this information, thank you

Kind regards Anton

If anyone has advice for Anton, please respond in his other thread at https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/un_merge_two_profiles_imdb_refuses_what_to_do rather than here, as this thread was originally about a different topic.
