Could we please have a separate "Colorist Department"
The role of Colorist and related jobs such as color timer, conforming, finishing, versioning, HDR etc. really need to be in their own category. It can be very hard to find who did the grading and finishing on a project, colorists are scattered between editorial, visual effects and maybe some other departments at the moment. Also listing Colorists in editorial is very misleading and confuses people about the responsibilities of the colorists and associates. For a good description of possible colorist duties see https://coloristsociety.com/role-of-the-colorist Thank you for your support

Rather than adding a Colourist section, I believe that a great solution that adheres to the IMDB categories logic is to add a 'Picture Finishing' section. This way it can cover Colourist, Conform, and DI (and all the various sub roles within each of those categories)I agree that it doesn't make sense for the colourist (or any of the above-mentioned finishing departments) to live in an editorial. 30 years ago it may have been that everyone worked in the same dept as that, but nowadays, the editorial dept is very much separate from the people responsible for the finishing of a digital film.

In full agreement, color grading is an extremely creative process, not just a technical one. Andrea Toy Bonvicini -cinematographer-

As a colorist that just finished his first distributed feature, the confusion from producers about where to put me in the credits was an interesting experience. A separate department would be outstanding!

I'm communicating with a colorist and he's asking why his credits fall under numerous categories. Maybe a new category can be created just for colorist? Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled New category under Filmography (non acting)?
