Could we please have a separate "Colorist Department"

The role of Colorist and related jobs such as color timer, conforming, finishing, versioning, HDR etc. really need to be in their own category. It can be very hard to find who did the grading and finishing on a project, colorists are scattered between editorial, visual effects and maybe some other departments at the moment. Also listing Colorists in editorial is very misleading and confuses people about the responsibilities of the colorists and associates. For a good description of possible colorist duties see https://coloristsociety.com/role-of-the-colorist

I'm communicating with a colorist and he's asking why his credits fall under numerous categories. Maybe a new category can be created just for colorist?

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled New category under Filmography (non acting)?

@ben_hampel thanks for establishing just how confused the colorist credit has become. Given that new categories have been introduced each year, and given that EVERY feature is graded and often finished by the color department, and with respect to the over 600 supporting votes for this petition, I hope IMDB start working on a solution soon. Colorist Society is very happy to work with them to make this happen.

Having a separate section would also make it easier for me to spot the colorist 'credits' that I need to delete that crop up on titles that were often finished before the applicable colorists were born.

I support this too.

This post has 657 upvotes, 4 pages long, clearly a lot of interest in this one. How come none of the IMDB employees never cared to respond, or offer any help beyond showing us guidelines?

@Michelle @Fran  @Bethanny @Ozzy Or at least loop someone in that could be of any help.

I just paid for another year of IMDB and it would be great if the website didn't say that I was in the editorial department, confusing all my potential clients. I would just like the service I pay for to respect me and my profession, not too much to ask I think.

100% agree. We need a separate COLOR department or perhaps a COLOR FINISHING department (to cover conform, assistants, supervising colorists, finishing artists, additional colorists, and so on).

I have just talked with a director who couldn't see the point of Imdb. She thinks it's too confused.

Making a

color department, or

Picture enhancement department or

Look department

would definitely help. So far, I divide my credits into 2 categories:

- visual effect department for all theatrical project

- editorial department for tv and short movies.

None of them sounds correct to me.

This is 100% way past due. Amazon, I know you can make it happen.

100% agree. Color has been a huge part of feature films and shorts, even more so in the digital era of the last 20 years. IMDB should definitely open up their listings to feature colorists, color supervisors, and assistants.
