Bug with Quotes Section

Yes I can vividly remember the times it's happened so this was the last one from about a year ago. 

Daniel Sunjata was credited on IMDb on an episode of The Twilight Zone (Seen here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11839568/) as 'Detective Frank Reece' but when I watched the episode his character was called Peter Reece (in dialogue & subs but no character name appeared in the credits), I did research and could find no reason he was listed as Frank aside from by error so I submitted my findings and changed his name to 'Detective Peter Reece'. And it suffered from the problem above in the Quote section.

Same problem even longer ago with an episode of SeaQuest DSV with Seth Green, his character was called Nick but it was listed as Mark, the quote section even had a line erroneously claiming him being called Nick was a mistake which I submitted a correction to which was approved but never went live on the site. There's probably an even older thread I started about this. It is ridiculous that IMDb is saving an actual ASCII string as a character name instead of linking to the name of the character in the cast list so that it is updated when the character name is corrected. (There are lots of incorrect character names in the IMDb database. Basically, any pre-1990 movie has over verbose character names where someone wanted to show off their knowledge but does not follow the end credits.) 

But as I mentioned in that thread, there are cases where you want the name in the quote page to be different from the character name in the main cast list.

I've only tried what I listed in the original post. If IMDb say 'Sorry this part of our system cannot be changed' I'll have a go at what you suggest. I'm not against the character name being different just not so different you might no have a clue who said what. If a name in the quote section doesn't even match a name in the cast in any way, it could be a head scratcher.

It looks like if I go the route of 'Other' it unlinks from the actors character page though, unless I'm looking at it wrongly.

It would be nice if corrections that were approved took effect on the site too. It's a bit like the quote section is less technologically advanced than the rest of the site.

It seems once a character name is added it's permanently embedded in this section of the site even if it's completely wrong.

Nothing is unlinked just because you use Other.

To correct something on the quote page, you need to submit a correction to the quote page. In your Twilight Zone example, if you choose Other, then select the actor, the form calls up the name from the cast list.

Okay thanks Peter, I can see what you mean.

I'll leave those ones for now so the tech team can look at it, because the jist I got from those other threads from staff is that this shouldn't be an issue and it should update but also that it has never actually been fixed.

But when they are finished or in future, I'll use your method. Cheers.

Guess if I do any full character name corrections I'll have to remember to check the quote section too.

Those rare cases should not drive the entire database and should be able to be handled as free text.
