Birth names no longer a useful section of the database?

I just noticed this article https://www.imdb.com/news/ni62580914 that links to this article https://variety.com/2019/film/actors/imdb-alters-policy-publication-birth-names-1203300451/. I just want a staffer to respond to this news. Is it true that IMDb allows birth names to be completely to be deleted from the database, nowhere to be found? If this is not true, that's good. If this is true, the database has been compromised and IMDb has made a step in the wrong, Orwellian direction.

I think there are quite some issues you all have to work out for yourselves, away from this forum. Princess Perky Pants, not arguing that, but there were credits which said Bruce Jenner. There's certain legality of name and credits in this world which I'm not too happy about myself, so saying that "there was no Bruce" just does not work in this world, figuartively. And yes, we live in an imperfect crapsack dystopian world in which most of Earth's population still have way too much problems which they should not. We should not have as much problems with legally confirming who we are and who we are not as well as having that much problems thinking about credits in movies.  

Using your logic actual person named Divine never existed, but that's how Harris Glen Milstead was nearly always credited. And just in case: no, Divine reportedly never had GID, so in this case his birth name applies. Although IMDb trivia is perpetually confused and refers to Divine as both her and him, depending on perspective.

IMDb needs to stop deadnaming trans people
IMDb should not put trans people’s old names out there.
The site should make an exception for the policy
of not removing factual information,
since this is extremely disrespectful
to all trans people working in the film industry....

I hope that they also address their policy with previous credits under deadnames, and I hope that they fix the way that they identify non-binary actors. I have been advocating for all of these fixes, along with other people, this whole time. This is a partial fix, and I am not going away until all of the issues that affect the trans community are addressed.

imdb is going to do what makes sense from a money and business perspective which is not the same as from being a repository of movie,tv,etc data. If imdb wasn't connected to imdbpro a/o amazon this wouldn't be happening.
Frankly I still lack the understanding as to the harm with keeping the names because I've not been able to find anything where someone has been harmed (and I've done searches). At the same time, not having had anyone harmed doesn't mean it's a slam dunk to keep the info either.
Unfortunately no one here has made a cogent argument why the names are a problem with any specificity and I've asked over and over.
Also anyone who has been credited under any name, should be maintained because if the video is out there, then it is out there and it's not like the name is going to be removed from the credits on existing videos. That means those names are going to stay in the public forever or until all that media self-destructs.

Typical. Just how do you know what my race is? Because all liberals assume that all minorities must be and have a particular opinion. You have no idea whether I've been discriminated against or not. For the record I have and won two discrimination cases.
So go back to the drawing board of trying to make this into a race issue because it has nothing to do with race. The only time people try to put this into race is when they are losing their argument and they think that will make people shut up because they're afraid of being called a bigot. You're not going to win that argument here.

I think it's the first time I've seen (or not seen as the case may be ) that. I guess the snowflake melted. I was really hoping to see any replies to finding a movie that blew their premise. Oh well, my life will still go on, but I'm worried about PPP/Snowflake/Reincarnation

That sounds like a pretty good description. As I've said I'm not in the biz and don't understand all the ins/outs. I also don't understand the position regarding birth names and truly have no opinion and really wanted to gain the facts, but as you said that raised the you're a bigot/racist/etc and when that was destroyed it devolved into more name calling. Saying it doesn't matter what I think is so short-sighted because wouldn't it be nice to win over an advocate?
I think I was going to post it, but ultimately didn't. The best argument I've seen yet was that the new name isn't a "stage name" and that the new name is a more fundamental change. I feel like that is the start of a good argument, but unless someone wants to discuss the issue intelligently and maturely, that won't ever happen.
Oh well.

Why? Do think that person is capable of admitting when she's wrong? Unless you thought you could change her mind, I'm not sure what was the point of arguing with her.

thought the reason for removing the birth names was to protect transgender privacy. I've scanned a lot of articles in the
past few days and cannot find one that specifies the exact privacy issue
except that the birth name would out them as being trans.  The harm
that I've seen specified is the inability to get a job because one is trans. 

So if I take it on face value, trans people should not want any publicity as being trans, right?
Then
I find this article where two actors are in a big budget flick and that
someone formed a talent agency just for trans actors.  It's this latter
part that has me stymied. So if the concern from above is to keep
secret someone is trans, having a talent agency that only reps for trans
actors would be a dead bang giveaway that someone is trans.  But wait a
minute, weren't we supposed to be protecting the privacy of people that
were trans and not outing them as trans??

Isn't this an oxymoron?
