Actors Defined As Jewish, Never Christian Or Catholic Or As Any Other Religion

Bios of actors and others include only one religious description: Jewish.  Other religions are not noted.  "Scarlett Johansson comes from a Jewish mother and Swedish father." Look it up. You'll see it. What you do not see is "Maynard Popnick comes from a Catholic mother and Italian father."  Either include all religions or don't include any.

Lena: For what it's worth, the discrepancy you are talking about has to do with the idea that "Jewish" often refers to an ethnic group as well as a religion. You can agree or disagree with that, but it may explain why some people would write biographies in that way.

I would agree that this is normal English language.

Jew
"A member of the people and cultural community whose traditional religion is Judaism and who trace their origins through the ancient Hebrew people of Israel to Abraham."

I believe you are absolutely right about the reason Jews, but not members of any other religious group, are defined by their religion on IMDb; but I think it's unfortunate and probably adds to the misinformation about Jews: that they are a culture (they are members of numerous cultures), that they are a race (they do not have physical features in common), that they own all of Hollywood and most banks, etc. Sorry that IMDb is joining in, but thanks for setting me straight. I get it, just don't much like it.

I have the same issue.  The are many religions with a culture that could be considered an important component of the religion.  There doesn't seem to be any valid reason to single out those actors with a Jewish background, and might unfortunately be used by some people in a negative way.
