_Look Before You Beep (1967)_ and _Double or Nuttin' (1968)_ are not real short cartoons

I am trying to get the following fictitious short cartoons deleted from the database: _Look Before You Beep (1967)_ (tt16254522) and _Double or Nuttin' (1968)_ (tt14033104). I have long had an interested in classic theatrical short cartoons, and I have never heard of nor seen these. They don't have copyright records. They are completely made up. However, when I tried to submit delete requests through the site help form, I got this back:

"Our aim is to be the most complete and reliable source of movie information on the web. Therefore, in order to keep offering our users an accurate and trustworthy service, it is our policy not to alter or delete any kind of correct/factual information or credit from our records.

In line with this policy, we cannot delete these titles because they exist and were available to the public in some form as per the release dates here:

That seems like circular logic to me. Someone uploads fake titles with fake release dates, and the fake release dates are used as proof that it exists? I have gotten IMDB to successfully delete fictitious titles in the past, so I'm not sure why they won't delete these.

Accepted Solution

Hi All -

Thanks for reporting these titles and providing all your researched findings.  I have now removed both title page listings.

I have also passed these title acceptance use cases to the appropriate team for review for visibility on how we can better prevent fake titles from being added to the site .

Thanks again!

I have received the same reply in similar requests, and I agree with you completely. If IMDb want to use this argument, they should be able to back their data up with sources.

For reference to staff: check this thread too: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/dial-j-for-jerry-1968-not-a-real-film/61a5bb6097253660be7a79cf

I mentioned "Double or Nuttin" in that thread as likely added by same user who added the "Dial J for Jerry" because they are from same fan fiction wiki.

(how did the staff accept to delete "Dial J for Jerry" btw? that bogus page was looking more convincing than "Double or Nuttin" they refuse to delete which has almost no data all)

User who added these titles probably has more imaginary titles added from these fan fiction wikis. It would be nice if staff examines the new titles added by that user and delete them if they are added by using that fanfic wiki link as evidence.

Why are they accepting such an obvious invalid link as evidence in the first place?

Btw, "Look Before You Beep" is probably added by someone else because it seems it's not really "imaginary" like other two but it's not eligible either. It's some compilation video made by this guy in 2008. Being merely a compilation makes it ineligible and it's an inaccurate page with 1967 dates and such, so should be deleted.

(echoing some of what mbmb said)

Look Before You Beep:

and more.

The credits on the 2010 version really look impressive. Fake, but realistic.

Another google result:

Look Before You Beep is  a compilation of the bumpers seen on The Road Runner Show in 1966-1968. The Footages were provided by Jon Cooke, owner of a website, GoldenAgeCartoons. It was first edited by Mathew Hunter, owner of the website, Too Looney!.

A lot less about Double or Nuttin':
