#210919-203114-615000 - deletion of unacceptable bio trivia items declined

Can a staffer look into why this was declined? Does it have anything to do with this person having IMDbPro?

@Rida Thanks. I see they haven't currently been deleted, but I'll check back in a few days.

Because IMDb chooses not to read everything contributors send to them, this thread probably won't get any answer (https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/210919203114615000-deletion-of-unacceptable-bio-trivia-items-declined/61525363a3c6907a0cdbd7d0), so I see myself forced to create a new thread about the same issue.

Anyway, the two bio trivia items that should have never been added in the first place on the page for Joplin Sibtain (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0796322/bio) are still there, even though Rida tried to delete them after my attempts were wrongfully declined.

Can a staffer look into this please?

Hi @Marco -

I can confirm that these Bio Trivia listings were not removed because they are eligible to be listed.  As per our Bio Trivia guide we are looking for random non-essential details about a person that are considered to be more amusing and interesting.

The current Trivia listed for Joplin Sibtain would be considered interesting to some and is therefore eligible to remain listed on the site.

@Michelle I disagree, the part of the guideline you quoted is IMDb's definition of a bio trivia item, it's not a guideline as such. One of the things that is a guideline though is "Bio trivia items should add directly or indirectly to the distinctive attributes of a person and provide/give an insight to that particular person rather than common trivia that could apply to most other people (i.e. "is a vegetarian" or "likes dogs")."

The two bio trivia items I tried to delete are true for literally more than five million people! How are they a part of the distinctive attributes of this person?

Hi Marco -

Apologies for the delayed follow-up.  I understand the point you are making here, it is true that we would not want to include very generalized or commonplace trivia items such as: "Loves dogs" or "Likes Pizza" (other unacceptable trivia examples: clothing size, eye color, favorite foods, favorite colors, etc.).  However, we do accept information that is unique to a person even though it applies to a large group of people, such as "Is Left handed" (we wouldn't accept "Is Right Handed" as this is commonplace).

If an individual has professionally resided in several different countries, or for example, is known predominantly as an American performer but is a citizen of another country, this would be unique and interesting and we would allow it, verses an American actor with US Citizenship (such as "Clint Eastwood"), which we wouldn't allow as this is not a unique fact.

Regarding family information, such as siblings and where the person ranked (such as "Youngest of four brothers"), we will allow this as it is unique to that person, one example would be "The Jonas Brothers", where it would be interesting to know how the siblings were ranked within the family.

I hope this helps!

@Michelle "However, we do accept information that is unique to a person even though it applies to a large group of people, such as "Is Left handed"

When entering the word 'left-handed' to a person's bio trivia page, the following warning appears:

So that might be something that needs looking into.
Apart from that, I think IMDb is opening up a can of worms with this. I agree there are exceptions (like The Jonas Brothers) in which something that would normally be too trivial to mention is worth a bio trivia item, but I fail to see why it's of any interest (other than for the family themselves of course) that, for example, Joplin Sibtain is the youngest of four siblings. To put it another way, I fail to see how it adds "directly or indirectly to the distinctive attributes [not my emphasis] of a person and provide/give an insight to that particular person". Exceptions can certainly be made, but I feel generally, left-handedness, having siblings, being Irish or American is just as trivial as someone's favorite color and doesn't say much about the specific person.

Hi @Marco -

Apologies for the delayed follow-up.  This screen grab is interesting, as I have never seen this Warning before, it's likely an old status, as we do now allow this trivial Bio-trivia.  I have filed a ticket for the appropriate team to review, as soon as I have an update I will relay the information here.

Cheers!
